HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE - THE CERTIFICATE IN GARDENING
Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for a
course leading to either qualification.
Description
The
Certificate in Gardening covers aspects of garden creation and
maintenance. It is particularly suitable for keen gardeners and people who
work, or hope to work, as gardeners in nurseries or other horticultural
occupations.
Course Content
The course covers a wide range of
skills including growing trees and shrubs, flowers and vegetables, the
garden as a nature reserve and garden design.
Where a course is aimed
towards an assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will
enter for the qualification.
Method of Assessment
You will
have to do written tests based on your course, which consists of 18
short-answer questions. You will get a certificate for each unit, known as
a Certificate of Unit Credit, and will be awarded the full gardening
certificate once you have completed all five units.
Progression
You
will be studying a subject that you enjoy and you will get a nationally
recognised qualification at the end of it. City & Guilds is the UK's
leading provider of work related qualifications so, if you do want to turn
your hobby into a paying job, this qualification will help. If not, you
will still have the satisfaction of having earned a certificate through
doing something you love.

Your tutor will recommend books for individual units.
