Our course is designed to prepare you for medical emergencies that you may experience in high risk hazardous and hostile environments. Our course is fully recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is awarded a BTEC Level 2 and it follows the core criteria of the internationally known and recognised IHCD/Edexcel First Person on Scene - Intermediate. The five and a half day approved HEMS course is for those requiring extended skills. The training includes both theoretical lectures and practical sessions, designed to develop good, all round emergency medical knowledge. Suitable for: The Medical Wing Ltd Hostile/Hazardous Environment Medics ( HEMS )© course is designed to take our clients to a standard that is required of the modern Close Protection Operator or anyone who may be visiting a Hostile or Hazordous Environment. You will be taught the skills associated with rapid assessment, stabilisation and transfer of both the trauma victim and those suffering a medical emergency. Our course has been developed by medical experts including remote Paramedics and Doctors and in conjunction with seasoned Close Protection operators.

Our trainers come from Special Forces Medical Units and civilian Paramedic backgrounds; all have recent operational experience. The residential HEMS course is located at the vast Fire Service Training centre at Moreton in Marsh. Set in 350 acres it has purpose built training areas that include a motor way cross section. shopping centre, airport, oil rig, ship, fixed wing aircraft and rotary aircraft plus much more. It also has a full gym, swimming pool, sauna, squash court, 3 reasonably priced bars, on site shop and some of widest choice of food you will ever experience at a training centre.

The course will prepare you in the following basic skills:
- The Pre Hospital Environment
- Scene Safety
- Infection Control
- Enhanced Patient Assessment
- Blocked Airway, Opening and Maintaining Airways
- Suspected Neck and Spinal Cord Injuries
- Choking and other Respiratory Problems
- Basic Life Support
- Use of Suction
- Recovery Position
- Defibrillators and Heart Rhythms
- Circulation and Shock
- Internal and External Bleeding
- Medical Emergencies such as Angina and Heart Attack, Diabetes, Stroke, Asthma, Fitting, Anaphylaxis and Allergic Reaction
- Oxygen Therapy
- Crash/Safety Headwear Removal
- Ventilation Support
- Trauma Related Emergencies such as – Fractures and Dislocations, Burns and Scalds
- Correct Techniques for Moving and Handling Patients
- Extrication of the Trapped Patient.
You will also be trained in more advanced skills which include:
- Cannulation* ( both Intravenous and Intraosseous using Cooks needle, B.I.G. gun F.A.S.T gun and includes live tissue training )
- Fluid Therapy*
- Needle chest Decompression in the Field*
- Emergency Cricothyrotomy and Advanced Airway Management including LMA’s*
- Advanced Trauma – Chest, Abdominal, Head and Extremity (including Tourniquets and Quick Clot).
- Patient Monitoring including recognising Respiratory difficulties and sounds, Blood Pressure and Pulse taking and Intra Muscular Injections to assist in a Medical Centre etc*

The above lists just some of the skills that you will be confident in before you leave the training centre. There is also a highly challenging and very rewarding scenario day encompassing everything that you have learnt on the course.
Qualification: IHCD FPOS-I plus Extended Skills from The Medical Wing
Accommodation: This is fully included in the course costs as with all meals and use of all on site facilities.
