Hot stone therapy is one of the fastest growing new therapies in Europe. It has ancient roots, however – stones have been used for divination – warmth, healing and protection since the beginning of time. The Japanese use stones to warm their abdomens to aid digestion and the Chinese have been using hot stones to relieve muscular pain for some 4,000 years. Many of us carry stones for good fortune or for healing even use pumice stones on our feet.
Recent studies have shown that the application of alternating hot and cold stones creates the deepest thermotherapeutic healing possible. It is estimated that one stroke with a stone is worth ten strokes with the hand. Thus Hot Stone Therapy is calculated to be ten times deeper, take ten times less effort, last ten times longer and increase the therapist’s practice by ten times.
Hot Stone Therapy is a wonderful additional treatment for practitioners already offering such therapies as Traditional Massage, Aromatherapy, reflexology, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Healing, Sports Massage and Indian Head Massage.
