Requirements:

All attendees must be proficient in either the Macintosh or Windows environments. It is expected that you will have little or no exposure to HTML. The course will use Note Pad and Internet explorer as the default editor and Browser. If you require another browser please ask and we will try to accommodate you.
Course suitable for:
This course is designed for delegates with little or no experience of HTML. If you are going to build Web pages without the aid of a Web authoring tool such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage, then this stage one course will get you started. If you are going to use a Web authoring package, then we suggest that perhaps a one-day overvie- of this course will be sufficient to enable you to appreciate ho- HTML works.
Course objectives:
On completion of this course delegates will be able to list the elements of HTML document structures including the Head and body tags. Delegates will apply formatting tags to text, pages and objects to embellish their pages. In addition attendees will be able to create Hyperlinks, tables and lists. The course will help to identify the Browser specific tags that will work in one browser but not another.
Course content:
Introducing HTML: What is Hypertext Mark-up Language? Creating an HTML document. The Head and Body elements. Basic Text Formatting; bold, italic and underline. Paragraphs and Line Breaks. Horizontal rules; insertion and manipulation. Hiding comments. Displaying reserved characters.
Text Formatting: Using the tag; manipulating typeface, colour, and type size. Translating colours into HTML hexadecimal values. Other font manipulation tags. Text formatting tags; Address, Blink, Blockquote, Cite, Code, etc.
Layout manipulation: Multicolumn Layouts; transferring text into columns and sub-columns, manipulating column and gutter width. Using horizontal and vertical spacers. Taking into account different Browsers, browser versions, screen size, and computer type.
Lists: Unordered (bullet-point) lists; manipulating bullet types. Using ordered (numbered) lists; manipulating number style, changing start number. Using definition lists. Manipulating and integrating all list types to create multi-level lists.
Hypertext Links: What are hypertext links? Absolute and relative links. Using and naming hypertext anchors. Linking to different documents, specific points in the same document and specific points in another document.
Images: Embedding Images. GIFs and JPG's. Manipulating an image; alignment, height and width specifications. Using alternative text to enable text-only browsers. Using images as bullet-points. Using images as hyperlinks. Removing the border. Creating and using background images. Changing standard background, text, and link colours.
Tables: Creating a basic table. Manipulating the border. Aligning text or graphics within a cell. Making a cell span several columns or rows. Manipulating table height and width; specifying pixels or using percentages. Adding colour to tables.
