Course programme

Year 1

You will be given a general introduction to all aspects of modern biology and encouraged to acquire general scientific skills.

Year 2

You will be introduced to the study of human physiology and anatomy, pharmacology and neuroscience, as well as choosing from a wide range of other courses.

You will also study other subjects in years 1 and 2: see Degrees in Arts, Life Sciences, Science and Social Sciences.

Years 3, 4 and 5

If you progress to Honours (years 3 and 4), you will take courses which allow you to develop a broad understanding of human biology through the study of the anatomy and physiology of body systems, the assessment of cardiovascular and respiratory function, as well as introductory nutrition. In fourth year, you will take three compulsory courses; Assessment of nutritional status in individuals and populations, Diet and disease prevention, and Energy balance and lifestyle, and also choose one from a range of optional courses. You will also carry out a substantial research project. In this year you will develop a range of skills in nutrition, work in teams and acquire useful experience for your future career.
