Why study this course Please note, the first year of this course (level 0) will be taught at our Luton campus with levels 1, 2 and 3 being taught at our UCMK campus in Milton Keynes. In the Foundation year you will study three days per week. The focus will be on academic writing skills and numeracy, plus subject-specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree. Computer System Engineering emphasises computer techniques, algorithms, tools and skills that support R&D of modern electronic/electrical engineering. The electrical/electronic engineering industry has experienced skill shortage in the recent years. The industry requires engineers with not only domain knowledge and skills but also knowledge and awareness of modern computer techniques and skills of...

Course programme

Who’s this course for? The course is multidisciplinary, developing your engineering background, Digital Signal Processing (DPS) and embedded programming skills. The course is structured in units that will allow you to gain fundamental knowledge and explore advanced computer and electronic engineering techniques. You will be able to apply these techniques to solve real-world engineering problems and develop communication and team-working skills. Modular structure Th course covers combined knowledge on both modern computer science and electrical/electronic engineering. Development of capabilities and skills of using computer techniques to solve real-world engineering problems, in terms of analysis, design, implementation and testing, and in the sense of project management. Opportunities for gaining hands-on experience in software and hardware tool kits that are commonly used in electrical/electronic engineering. Teaching and learning activities supported by R&D research to ensure that emerging computing and engineering technologies are informed. Teaching and learning supported by industry links with local and regional industry partners. Opportunities for students to be involved in real-world R&D projects. Development of awareness of possible equality and diversity issues in electrical/electronic engineering.

Additional information

Skills and experience gained Upon successfully completion of this course, students should be able to: Demonstrate advanced knowledge on modern computer and electrical/electronic engineering techniques and explore further in the area. Critically analyse engineering problems. Critically evaluate computer techniques in relation to electrical/electronic engineering problems. Creatively synthesise solutions to engineering problems with contemporary computer techniques and with software/hardware developing skills. Critically evaluate solutions synthesised. Manage solution synthesis processes, including design, implementation, test and documentation. Demonstrate the understanding of economic, social and environment context of engineering processes. Present arguments in an academic, scientific, professional and logical style both orally and in writing. After the course Graduates from this pursue careers in electrical/electronic industry. Software engineers go into computer software companies who develop specific software for the above industry.
