ICT (BTEC First)
Level: Intermediate Level 2 (IT General Practitioners)

Awarding Body: EDEXCEL

Course Content:
Student will engage for 12 hours a week to learn how ICT is used in industry to solve problems. Units covered include:

· Unit 1 - Introduction to Information Systems
· Unit 2 - Use of Information technology
· Unit 3 - Information Systems
· Unit 4 - Introduction to Databases
· Unit 5 - Business Applications
· Unit 6 - Financial Modelling

This course is designed to promote awareness of ICT can relate to both individuals and organisations.

Teaching Learning Methods:
Students will be expected to participate in a range of classroom activities that promote:

1. Student led discussions and workshops
2. Practical Exercises
3. Working on specific case studies
4. Producing well documented portfolios
5. Working to agreed deadlines
6. Daily submission of coursework
7. Working individually as well as part of a team

Key Skills:
Key skills are developed and assessed in addition to the core teaching program.

Assessment:
This course is 100% coursework based and students are expected to complete 6 units to merit/distinction standard.

Skills & Commitment:
All students should be expected to be able to demonstrate the following skills and aptitude:

1. A keen willingness in ICT and how it plays a part in solving problems
2. A willingness to work independently
3. A willingness to use the VLE
4. An ability to communicate well; both in terms of written assignments and class discussions.
5. A willingness to put in an additional 10 - 12 hours 'home' time in addition to their 12 hours 'college' time.

All students at BTEC level should aim to achieve a merit or distinction grade.

Cost:
Students should be willing to purchase the writing paper, folder, pens and storage media, i.e. USB memory stick or floppy disks.
