BTEC First Diploma ICT Practitioners
WHY TAKE BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA ICT PRACTIONERS?
ICT has far-reaching implications on our everyday lives and is now part of most employment areas in some shape or form. The skills acquired will therefore prove useful for the vast majority of careers and also in other subject areas that you may study.
Achieving a good pass is a good stepping stone to move on to a higher level ICT programme such as BTEC National or AS. It is also an excellent subject to put on your CV when looking for any type of employment.
WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
There are six units of work to be completed; Using ICT to Present Information, Introduction to Computer Systems, Web Design, Customising Applications Software, Spreadsheets (half unit) / Mobile Communications (half unit) and Graphics.
WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
Good writing skills are necessary as there will be significant write ups to complete for the assignment work. Good organisational and time management skills are also necessary to enable you to meet coursework deadlines. Lessons consist of a mixture of teacher led learning for the knowledge requirements as well as a practical hands-on environment for the assignment work. This will include instruction and demonstration via the use of interactive whiteboards.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
There are no externally examined units on the BTEC First ICT programme. All units are assessed by assignment. Units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. They are marked by your Tutors and a sample sent to Edexcel for external verification to agree the marks awarded.
PRIESTLEY EXTRA
You will be able to take part in activities such as creating websites, designing robots and join in with the College's Computer Club. We also organise optional trips abroad (France and Japan are our most recent).
