About this course

Learners must have a good school report and 4 GCSEs at grades D (students with 4 or more GCSEs at grade C or above should consider applying for the two-year National Diploma for IT Practitioners course). Successful college interview. If you are 19 years of age or over, at the start of the course, the tuition fee of£495 per year is payable.

Course Overview
This one year course is made up of core and specialist units which cover aspects of knowledge, understanding and competency necessary for employment within the IT sector.

There may be some trips to experience how IT is used in the local workplace, and possibly work experience during the course.

Successful candidates may wish to progress on to BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners course or gain direct entry to employment as a trainee in the computing industry.

Course Structure
Two core units plus between four and six specialist units

Core units:

  • Networking Essentials
  • Software Design and Development
  • Customising Applications Software
  • Database software
  • Spreadsheet software

Continuous assessment of learner work and assignments.

Cost / Equipment
A£35 (non-refundable) payment towards the cost of stationery and consumables.

Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants. If you are not on benefits but find it difficult to pay any course related costs because of financial hardship.
