The IHCD First Person on Scene (FPOS) awards are qualifications, at two levels, in the skills and knowledge required to provide immediate life support to the patient pending the arrival of definitive pre-Hospital care. Effective interventions have been shown to make a difference to survival outcome. Clinical endorsement for the FPOS framework and assessment is through the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (Edinburgh).

Who is this qualification for?

The IHCD Awards are intended for anyone who may need to use first aid skills as part of their role and will be particularly suitable for those people working in the:

  • NHS, (community responders, co-responders)
  • Emergency services, (police and fire services)
  • Protective and security industries, (door supervisors, retail security officers, close protection officers)
  • Sport and event sector (marshals, stewards and others involved in community events)
  • Retail sector (frontline staff)
  • Charity sector (relief operations)
  • Transport sector (cabin crew, port and rail staff)
  • Industrial sector (First Aiders in manufacturing, construction and engineering)
Aims of the qualification

The IHCD First Person on Scene (FPOS) awards are designed to provide:

  • Skills for those people whose roles are likely to bring them in regular contact with incidents where members of the public or work colleagues may suffer trauma injury or accidents
  • CPD opportunities for First Aiders
  • Close Protection Officers requiring a licence to practice must hold a First Aid qualification, the IHCD Intermediate Award is accepted by the Security Industry Authority
  • Opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised qualification and to develop skills transferable into a range of differing work roles and environments.
