Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Light Vehicle Route - IMI Level 1 Award
What will I study?
This level 1 qualification covers the basic technical needs for todays motor vehicle repair industry. It provides essential knowledge and practical skills required for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. The course lasts for 35 weeks and early completion is actively encouraged to facilitate progression onto Level 2 Technical certificate within the first year. This is a nationally recognised, vocationally related qualification (VRQ) which provides the essential knowledge to do a job.
How can I progress?
On successful completion of this qualification, students can progress to Level 2 Technical Certificate or gain employment as an apprenticeship in the motor industry.

Course Structure
Whilst studying towards this qualification the following modules will be covered; *Working Safely and Effectively during Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, *Foundation Skills for Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, *Light Vehicle Construction and Routine Maintenance, *Operating Principles of Light Vehicle Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems, *Operating Principles of Light Vehicle Engines and associated systems, *Operating Principles and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission Systems, *Operating Principles and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Systems. Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
