Full description

The ILS course has been developed standardise much of the in-hospital training undertaken already by resuscitation officers. It consists of lectures and practical stations. The lectures cover:

  • causes and prevention of cardiorespiratory arrest
  • the ALS algorithm.

The practical stations are:

  • the ABCDE approach
  • initial resuscitation and defibrillation
  • airway (with optional LMA)
  • targeted training
  • CASTeach.

There is one CASTeach demonstration. Emphasis is placed on managing patients until the arrival of the cardiac arrest team, then on participating as a member of that team. Assessement is continuous in nature, and the course is recognised for continuing professional development.
