Untitled PageFull description
The ILS course has been developed standardise much of the in-hospital training undertaken already by resuscitation officers. It consists of lectures and practical stations. The lectures cover:
- causes and prevention of cardiorespiratory arrest
- the ALS algorithm.
The practical stations are:
- the ABCDE approach
- initial resuscitation and defibrillation
- airway (with optional LMA)
- targeted training
- CASTeach.
There is one CASTeach demonstration. Emphasis is placed on managing patients until the arrival of the cardiac arrest team, then on participating as a member of that team. Assessement is continuous in nature, and the course is recognised for continuing professional development.
