Course programme
Course review:
This course concentrates on more complicated construction methods using either cloth or leather.
Students are always encouraged to take the Shape-Making for Bags course , which is always held one day before the advanced course, to learn pattern cutting skills so that they can continue to use their own patterns in the course. If not taking the pattern cutting course students will be using patterns provided. In both cases they will be shown techniques to achieve a professional standard of finish using a specialist industrial 'walking foot, cylinder arm' sewing machine.
Price includes all specialist bag making materials: pattern paper, fabric backer, magnetic closures, zips, cutting blades, a limited choice of fabric and leather, and refreshments.
Difference between our Beginners, Improvers and Intensive Bag Making courses:
- Beginners: Emphasis on using domestic sewing machine. Patterns are prepared by the tutor. Cover basic construction methods. Personalised parts: bag size and handle construction.
- Improvers: Emphasis on using industrial sewing machine. Patterns are prepared by the tutor, but can be personalised if the student take the Shape-Making for Bags course prior to the course. Cover more complicated construction methods. Personalised parts: bag construction methods, bag size, handle construction, finishing techniques.
- Intensive: Cover both pattern cutting techniques and complicated construction methods. Students can create their own patterns and select their own leather during a guided tour to wholesale leather merchants.
Things you need to bring with you:
- Sharp fabric scissors
- Notebook and pen
- A very limited selection of fabric and leather is available in the school, which can be used as the body or the lining of the bag, but students are welcome to bring along their own material or leather to make sure that the bags they make match their expectation. Please check the following points about what materials to bring.
