Why Inclusive Practice?
If you work with people with learning difficulties or disabilities in education or in the community, our FdA Inclusive Practice is for you. The course recently received a Beacon Award for outstanding practice in meeting the needs of professionals working in this field.
The two-year course runs on one day a week during term-time at University Centre Weston, allowing you to continue working while you study. It will enable you to meet others from similar settings, give you increased confidence and understanding, specific knowledge and skills, and a respected higher education qualification. Following successful completion, you can progress to one of our honours degrees by taking a one-year top-up course.
Why study this course?
You will work individually and in teams, writing assignments, giving short presentations and engaging in practical activities. Among wide-ranging topics, you will be introduced to education and disability policy, look at ways of supporting people with autistic spectrum conditions and learn how to manage difficult behaviour.
All tasks are work based and draw on your experience. In addition to eight hours attendance per week, you will need to allocate time for study skills and tutorials, which will be arranged to suit your circumstances.
Real-world experience
Real-world experience is a prerequisite of this course, which is directly linked to the workplace, and credits are gained through completion of work-based tasks. You must be working with people with learning difficulties or disabilities for a minimum of 16 hours per week, although relevant voluntary work may be taken into account.
Where it can take you
On successful completion, you can progress to one of our honours degrees. For those not wishing to continue with higher education, the course provides an excellent foundation for career progression to more senior and responsible roles working with people with learning difficulties or disabilities.
