About this course

Previous or existing experience as an advice worker is a key requirement. Maths and English GCSEs at grade 4/C or an equivalent qualification are ideally required. In order to be selected for this course, you will also need excellent communication skills and an ability to work with many different professionals in a typical business environment. IT literacy is important to use software in the workplace. Finally, you must have the drive to complete the demands of the course and become a qualified level 3 Advice and Guidance professional

Course programme

Year 1

The aim of the course is to develop your skills as an information, advice and guidance professional and give you confidence in working as an advice and guidance worker in any organisational setting. The programme will require you to complete a level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance. This is a unitised programme which is portfolio-based and assessed in the workplace. This is delivered via e-learning with support from your assessor. Example units will include: managing clients relationships and developing this relationship, planning a course of action, ensuring compliance with legislation, reviewing a course of action, making referrals, managing your own contribution to the service, handling advice and guidance in groups and networking.

Additional information

Assessment for this course is largely via a portfolio of evidence gathered at work. You will also be regularly visited at work by your trainer/assessor from Leicester College, who will support you to achieve the standard required.
