Course programme

What you need to know
How will I study?

The AS GCE is made up of two mandatory units, which form 50% of the corresponding four-unit Advanced GCE. AS Unit G061 is externally assessed and is made up of 7 modules: Data, information, knowledge and processing; Software and hardware components of an information system; Characteristics of standard applications software and application areas; Spreadsheet concepts; Relational database concepts; Applications software used for presentation and communication of data and the role and impact of ICT – legal, moral and social issues. AS Unit G062 is internally assessed through coursework which requires the design, software development, testing and documentation of a system using a range of applications software.
How will I be taught?

Each week theory from the GO61 unit will be delivered for 1¼ hours in one session and another one hour in the other session. Topics will be discussed in a whole-class settting, in small groups and in pairs. Prior to undertaking the coursework tasks there will be mimic tasks to teach you the skills required for the coursework. These will be demonstrated and worked on in the second part of each session.
How will I be assessed?

Weekly homework will consist of questions from past papers and at the end of every module there will be a test. Feedback on the coursework preparatory tasks will be given to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is required. You will need to achieve at least a D grade to progress to A2 ICT.
