Why should I come to Pendleton College?
ICT is a very popular subject at Pendleton. This course will give you the chance to develop your skills and knowledge in computers and computer technology. A good grade will allow you to go on to study ICT on the BTEC First Level, further training or a job.

What will I study?
You will work on units that help you to develop your practical computer skills, personal skills and also learn how computer systems are used in the world of work and how to apply for jobs in IT. The units include:

  • Starting Work in the IT Industry
  • Working in the IT Industry
  • Developing Skills in IT
  • Personal Effectiveness
  • Digital Devices
  • Using the Internet
  • Financial Management
  • PC Systems

What will I achieve?
To do well in a job in ICT, you need to be self-disciplined, confident, willing to use your own initiative and work with others. These are the kind of skills you will gain by taking this course and are the kind of skills employers want. No qualification can guarantee you a job, but by taking this Foundation course, you will have a wider range of skills and knowledge and be able to apply these in a first job in IT. Alternatively success in this course could mean progression on to a higher level course.

How is the course assessed?
All eight units are assessed through your coursework folder. There are no written exams or tests. You will get an overall grade based on your achievement in all 8 units of a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What else will I do?
Because this is a practical course, the work that you do in College will be backed up by looking at the use of Computers and IT in the world of work through trips and visits. There are various trips organised by the college which include visits to universities, Euro Disney and Alton Towers.
