About this course

You should have achieved at least grade C in a range of GCSEs, and particularly in English and Mathematics.
You should also have a genuine desire to study ICT in depth, both practically and academically.

Applied AS & A Level
About the Course
AS level: This is a one year course, comprising three AS units: Using ICT to Communicate, How Organisations use ICT, and ICT Solutions for Individuals and Society. Units 1 and 3 will be assessed through the production of a piece of coursework, with an examination for unit 2.
A level (Single Award): This can be taken either as a one year or two year course, comprising six units. It includes the three units listed above, plus three A2 units: Working to a Brief, Spreadsheets and Developing and Creating Websites.
AS level (Double Award): This is a two year course, in which you study six units â€" the 3 AS units listed above plus System Specification and Configuration, Software Development (Design) and Communicating using Computers.
A level (Double Award): This is a two year course covering the six AS level units and three A2 units listed above, plus three additional A2 units in Software Development (exam), Program Production and Database Design (coursework assessments).
Course Aims
The Applied A level in ICT aims to develop a broad range of ICT skills, and knowledge of computer systems, and their application in solving problems in organisations.
The course aims to prepare you for employment in business or industry where you would use advanced ICT skills. It also prepares you for study of computing or IT in Higher Education.
Please note that this is not a practical course to develop IT skills only.

How is the course assessed?
You will produce coursework assignments throughout the course for each unit, building up a portfolio of your work.
There are also examinations for some of the units.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
The course offers a choice of pathways towards your chosen career.
You could go into employment or further training in the computing and IT industry. If you take other advanced level courses, you could go on to study at HND or Degree level in Higher Education. Some students have also gone on to train to teach ICT in schools.
