All kinds of business rely on IT, and jobs in this sector are wide ranging and well paid. IT specialists are needed everywhere from banking to computer games companies. This course is a great introduction to the industry, and a first step on your path to employment. The course will be taught in a dedicated computer suite. You will explore software such as Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator. Our lecturers come from wide-ranging industry backgrounds that include commercial web design, online gaming and interactive television.

4 GCSEs at grade D or equivalent including English and maths or Level 1 Routes Into ICT and Media. Mature students and those with relevant experience or special circumstances are also invited to apply. Course Content You will learn about various aspects of the industry, including the hardware and software components needed to build a PC, the basics of website development, computer graphics, and the first steps in computer programming. You will use a combination of these new skills to create a computer game as this is an exciting and fun way to learn. How will I be assessed? The course is assessed entirely through coursework. Progression This is an excellent starting point for a career in the IT industry. To gain a more secure knowledge of the subject and greater employability skills, you would usually progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT, where you will build on everything learned on this course. After that, you may be able to secure an Apprenticeship, go on to higher education or get a job in an IT-related field. Fees • If you are aged 16–18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
