Course programme

Course Outline:

This course is aimed at anybody who is currently working in or considering employment using information technology. It will give you an overview and experience of the duties that you would be required to carry out.

Course Content:

The NVQ is made up of a number of units that will enable you to demonstrate that you are competent in performing a number of related tasks.

Some of these units are mandatory, while others are optional to allow you to look at an area of work that is of particular interest to you.

Students need to complete a variety of units from a choice of 22. For Level 1 Award, students need to obtain at least 40 unit values, 100 unit values for a Level 2 Award and 180 unit values for Level 3.

There is a requirement for students to demonstrate competence in a suitable work environment, this may be through employment or through an extended work placement. Students must be able to demonstrate competence to the assessor through observations and the collection of work based evidence. There are NO formal, external examinations. Each unit is assessed separately so that unit certification can be awarded where necessary.

Units studied include: Word Processing, E-Mail, Intranet and Internet, Database, Operating a PC, IT trouble shooting and Sector Specific Software, plus several others. Candidates can select units that best match their skills and working environment.

Progression Routes:

The Centre offers Levels 1-3 and will give guidance on the most appropriate entry level to students. All students are encouraged to then move on to a higher level or alternative course.

The Centre works with employers to encourage life-long learning routes to all.
