Information Technology (Software Development) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma LocationCranford Avenue Course Overview Apply Now All kinds of business rely on IT, and one of the largest (and most highly paid) areas for employment is software development. You will develop a wide range of skills, with a special focus on computer programming and software development. Although much of your study will involve the creation of computer games, the skills learned are applicable to any area of the industry. The course will be taught in a dedicated computer suite. You will explore software such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Notepad++ and Visual Studio. The emphasis will be more on software creation than software usage. Our lecturers come from wide-ranging industry backgrounds that include commercial web design, online gaming and interactive television.

5 GCSEs at grades C including English and maths or equivalent or Level 2 Diploma in IT at Merit. Mature students and those with relevant experience or special circumstances are also invited to apply. Course Content You will learn about various aspects of the industry, including: • Hardware and software components needed to build a PC • HTML5, CSS3 and website development • Digital graphics for interactive media • Event driven programming • Procedural programming • Object oriented programming • Database design (e.g. Access/SQL) • Computer game design and development. Industry trends can change quickly, so the actual content of units may also change over the two years, though the core skills learned will not. How will I be assessed? The course is assessed entirely through coursework. Progression This is an excellent way to start your career in the IT industry. Although it may be possible to get a job following this course, most will progress to an Apprenticeship or higher education course. Fees • If you are aged 16–18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
