INTRODUCTION
The Pharmaceutical Industry continues to face huge change with the world's largest selling drugs predicted to shift from oral small molecules, taken by millions of patients and costing about a £1 a day to biologics, taken by fewer people, but costing hundreds of times as much. The emphasis is thus increasingly on making sure patients take their drugs by applying ergonomic factors and compliance monitoring to drug delivery. SmartJect was the first ergonomically designed pre-filled, single use disposable auto-injector and devices which provide compliance monitoring are under active consideration. In the area of orals, Novartis has struck a deal with Proteus Biomedical to put compliance monitors in tablets, it cannot be long before auto-injectors and pen injectors use electronics to not only monitor compliance (e.g. the Memoir pen can show when doses were taken) but to communicate compliance to a healthcare provider.
Programme to include:
- What Activities the Drug Company Should Focus on When Launching an Auto-Injector Combination Product
- Market Review – Looking at Major Pharma’s R & D Pipeline
