Installing Electrotechincal Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) Level 3 NVQ Diploma (QCF)

• Selection is by interview. • You must complete a colour blindness and skills assessment test. • We welcome applications from mature students. Plus the following: • At least 4 GCSEs at minimum grade D, or equivalent, including maths, English and science. • You must have successfully completed the EAL Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations qualification or a suitable equivalent. • There is an expected level of knowledge required for the course and you will need a positive attitude and willingness to work hard. Course Content The course is built around nine units of study. These share similar outcomes and allow for multiple units to be undertaken at the same time: • Understanding health and safety legislation, practices and procedures (installing and maintaining electrotechnical systems and equipment) • Understanding environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems • Understanding the practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment (electrical installation) • Understanding the practices and procedures for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in buildings, structures and the environment • Understanding the principles of planning and selection for the installation of electrotechnical equipment and systems in buildings, structures and the environment • Understanding the principles, practices and legislation for the termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems • Understanding the principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment • Understanding the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment • Understanding the electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. Progression You can progress your learning with Weymouth College from Level 3. Those who successfully complete this Level 3 course may be able to progress to Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems & Equipment (Buildings, Structures & the Environment) performance units if a work placement can be gained by the student. The course should provide an enhanced understanding of principles and skills required for entry into the electrical engineering and installation industries, and allow progression to higher education. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. • Bursary funds There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
