About this course

Standard AS/A level entry requirements of 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C apply.
In addition, grade B in an art based GCSE and/or experience in either art or design technology is essential. You will need to bring in a portfolio of your art and/or design work for your interview. Plus a minimum APS Score: 42

Interior Design, Product Design, Set Design - AS Level

Aim This one-year course offers you the opportunity to develop your design skills in Interior Design, Product Design or Set Design. In addition to exploring current design issues and trends, you will also be taught a range of drawing, presentation and model-making skills to ensure you maximise your design potential with this AS qualification.
Content During this course, you will:
· Explore the visual and technological changes within your chosen area of design
· Develop your visual and research skills through on-going sketchbook based projects
· Explore and apply the design process in developing your own design ideas
· Translate your ideas into vibrant 3D visuals and scale models.

AS level:
1. Explore your chosen area of design by exploring key changes over the last 100 years
2. Apply your drawing and model making skills in developing an innovative solutions to identified problems within your area of design
3. Preparation of research and ideas for your timed examination.

Extra information
You will need to purchase a sketchbook and basic art equipment in the first week of term. You will be given a list of the necessary equipment in your first design session.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
