This programme is suitable for those employed within the sector as service technicians or sports/ ground care technicians working on a wide range of specialist vehicles and machines used in farming, forestry, horticulture, ground care or sports facilities. You will play an important role in helping to keep equipment in good working order through planned maintenance as well as carrying out diagnostic and repair work when required.

Entry Criteria

Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to clarify course appropriateness. Entrants must have the ability to achieve Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics and IT be able to cope with the Level 2 vocational qualification. Apprentices must have a contract of employment working for a minimum for 30 hours/week.

Venue

Work-based with college attendance for six, one week blocks over each of the two years (12 weeks attendance in all). Up to three weeks extra attendance may be required for functional skills

The Apprenticeship is made up of a number of different nationally recognised qualifications:

Combined Competence and Knowledge Qualification:

· Level 2 Edexcel Diploma in Workbased Landbased Engineering (click here for details)

Learners can choose from the following pathways, Agricultural or Ground Care

Functional Skills:

  • Level 1 English
  • Level 1 Mathematics
  • Level 1 ICT

Employee Rights and Responsibilities

· Delivered and assessed through a workbook

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

· Assessment and recognition through a Record of Achievement

Additional Employer Requirements:

· First Aid Certificate

Progression:

Apprentices successfully completing the Intermediate Apprenticeship have opportunities to progress within the industry by continuing onto the Advanced Apprenticeship or other Further Education courses.

Possible Careers/jobs

Typical jobs apprentices will be able to progress onto on completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship will depend on the qualifications and experience gained, but could include: service engineer, service foreman, technical representative, workshop manager, sales engineer.
