Course Summary:
This Level 2 Certificate in Sport study programme is designed for learners with mid-level GCSE grades who did not achieve English and Maths at grade 3 (C) or above.
The study pathway will focus on the achievement and skills development of maths and English while covering concepts of anatomy, coaching and fitness within the Sports sector. This study programme has the option of a further year's study at this level to complete a Diploma in Sport (Olympic).
Learners will need to be focussed on the completion of their skills programme in order to advance to higher level qualifications and to open up greater chances of employment. In both practical and theoretical settings, you will study what Sport can offer and where the employment growth markets are within the sector.

Course programme

Course Content: The programme is developed to increase your understanding of: Fitness for Sport and Exercise Practical Sports Performance The Mind and Sports Performance The Sports Performer in Action Lifestyle Anatomy and Physiology Additional subjects and activities such as Functional Skills and GCSE in English and Maths, work experience, tutorials and sport training sessions will be part of your timetable. How will I be assessed? You will be expected to meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks throughout the year. You will be assessed primarily through the completion of coursework which could be in the form of: Presentations Reports Practical demonstrations Work books Discussions and vivas Log books and training records There is also an externally verified unit which is assessed through an online exam. Maths and English will be assessed through controlled assignments or a final exam. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You will need to buy a kit. The cost of this will be finalised at the start of the course but is expected to be in the region of £140. This payment will also cover the costs of the end-of-year celebration event and yearly gym membership. This money should be received before November. There may be additional costs incurred for selected trips or expeditions. Financial assistance may be available depending on your personal circumstances. If you join one of our sports academies, such as the Derby County Community Trust Football Academy, you may also be required to purchase academy-specific kit. What can I do after this course? Further study If you achieve a Merit grade or better on the Level 2 Certificate, and show a high standard of attendance, discipline and meeting deadlines, you can progress to the following courses at Derby College: Advanced Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) Advanced Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science Advanced Diploma in Uniformed Public Services Intermediate Certificate in Fitness Instruction Intermediate Diploma in Health, Fitness and Exercise Instruction Intermediate Diploma in Public Services Careers Alternatively you may wish to seek employment in the sport and active leisure industry.
