Course Summary:
The Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture places an emphasis on learning by doing. You will complete practical assignments to demonstrate the skills you have attained, along with some written submissions to confirm your theoretical understanding of certain topics.
Entry requirements
You should be at least 16 years old, have a commitment to working in the horticulture industry and have achieved four GCSE passes at grades D-G. You will need good literacy and numeracy skills as well as the ability to organise written information.
Appropriate industrial experience and the ability to demonstrate that you are prepared for dedicated work in the horticulture industry would be beneficial.
You must have a minimum of a Merit grade to progress to an Advanced Diploma.

Course programme

Course Content: You will be advised of the full course content at your interview. You will take Functional Skills as part of the course. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed when carrying out a series of practical tasks such as laying paving slabs, pruning and tree planting, as well as on your written work where appropriate. There will also be plant names to learn for identification tests and portfolios to create on weeds, pests and diseases. You will have to answer underpinning knowledge questions too. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You are required to wear protective clothing and footwear for all practical activities. You will have to buy these at the start of the course. Full details will be given at your interview. You will also need to provide a folder and dividers for your portfolio, along with writing materials. What can I do after this course? After this course, you can progress to the Advanced Diploma in Horticulture, Countryside or Arboriculture. However, you must have a minimum of a Merit grade to progress to an Advanced Diploma.
