Management Systems Course Trainer TBA
Management Systems Course Trainer
An experienced practitioner, our trainer has, for over twelve years, worked with organisations to implement effective management systems for both the environment, and health and safety. In addition, he practices as an auditor, working directly for clients testing their organisations compliance with legislation, and serving as an internal auditor. As part of these projects he has worked extensively with ISO 9001 and has also worked as an ISO 14001 Assessor.
Course programme
This innovative 4-day course is suitable for delegates seeking to improve their auditing skills as well as for those learning to become auditors. It is a general auditing course and is therefore relevant for a range of standards including ISO 14001: 2004; OHSAS 18001: 2007, and ISO 9001: 2008.
The course is highly interactive and enables delegates to learn through discussion and practice. In the first two days, there are eight exercises and no PowerPoint presentations!
Course Objectives
The course objectives comprise:
- Explain and understand the role of an auditor
- Explain and understand the structure of an audit
- Review and practice the key elements of preparing for an audit
- Review and practice the principles and techniques of conducting an audit
- Review the key elements of audit reporting.
Course Delivery and Content
The method of delivery is informal and interactive. A variety of exercises are established creating opportunities for questions and group discussion. Days 1 & 2 are consecutive, as are Days 3 & 4.
Day 1:
What is auditing? What is its purpose? And structure? What’s involved in audit preparation? And in conducting an audit?
Delegates are then required to undertake preparation for a 40-minute scenario-based audit which they will complete as part of Day 2.
Delegates also prepare to become auditees in order to be able to assist in the completion of audits.
Day 2:
The learning outcomes from the audits are discussed; common problems are identified, and good practice is commended.
The findings from the audits are then identified and discussed. The concept of non-conformance is introduced and applied to the findings from the audit.
At the end of Day 2, delegates are set a task to conduct one or two audits within their own workplace.
Day 3:
Auditors will be allowed to present their findings and non-conformances (if relevant) from their workplace audits. These are then discussed by the group. Day 3 reinforces some of the learning outcomes from Days 1 and 2. These learning outcomes are captured by the tutor as “Auditor Do’s & Don’ts” and circulated to all delegates.
Day 4:
A detailed study - from an auditor’s perspective - of a specific standard; one of OHSAS 18001: 2007; ISO 14001: 2004, and ISO 9001: 2008 as appropriate.
