NEBOSH International Diploma International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice

This NEBOSH International Diploma has been set at the same level as the National Diploma but with the exclusion of UK legislation. It is recognised by IOSH - the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health - as fulfilling the academic requirements for Chartered Membership (CMIOSH).

Course Content

The syllabus comprises four core units:

  • Unit IA: International management of health and safety
  • Unit IB: International control of hazardous agents in the workplace
  • Unit IC: International workplace and work equipment safety
  • Unit ID: International application of health and safety theory and practice.

Examinations

Units IA - IC are separately assessed by written examination. The examinations are held twice a year in January and July. Examinations are held in Coventry and Dublin, and in other cities overseas by arrangement with the British Council or in the USA or Australasia a local University.

Workplace Based Assignment (Unit ID)

Unit ID is a workplace based assignment. It consists of an audit of a health and safety management system and two risk assessments, one covering hazardous agents and the other workplace or work equipment hazards. The assignment can be submitted to NEBOSH in either March or September.

Distance Learning Materials

Students are provided with notes, coursework and some key text books. Overseas students are sent the course materials by courier. Students are encouraged to complete the coursework and submit this to ATM Safety & Environment for marking by post or email. The coursework does not count towards the award.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Reference Material

HSE publications are free and available from the HSE website and are an extremely useful source of reference for the course and for completing the Unit D assignment. Priced publications were previously available through membership of HSE Direct but this closed at the end of 2009 following the HSE Board's decision to make the previously priced publications available free of charge from the HSE website.

e-Tutorials

ATM Safety & Environment send emails to students on a regular basis to keep them informed of coursework requirements, course material updates and NEBOSH examination registration requirements. In between these dates students can contact their tutor by telephone or email and must submit coursework for marking by the submission dates.

Programme

ATM Safety & Environment teach Unit IA in the Autumn Term, Unit IB in the Spring Term and Unit IC in the Summer Term. Students can start the course at the beginning of any of these terms, and therefore can take the Units in any order. Students should normally look to taking their exams at the first available opportunity, however if students wish to defer taking an exam i.e. to avoid taking too many at one sitting ATM Safety & Environment will support them for a further six months after completing a Unit.
