Our International Foundation Programme (Psychology) is designed to introduce you to a new study culture, develop your English skills and help build a solid understanding of key concepts in psychology. Classes on this course are taught and run by specialist English for Academic Purposes (EAP) lecturers, and expert departmental tutors.

You’ll benefit from teaching that’s interactive, and has a strong focus on communication and group working. This way, you don’t just learn from your tutors, but also from your fellow students as you collaborate and support each other’s progress.

Studying in a foreign country is a great opportunity that can be a really positive life-changing experience. It can also be a challenge. We’re here to provide you with wide-ranging support and encouragement to help you make the most of your time living and studying in the UK.

This course covers the key areas from the first year of a Psychology undergraduate degree programme, so if you complete it successfully, you’ll be ready to consider full undergraduate study in a psychology-related subject – having also familiarised yourself with the academic language and study skills required.

Teaching, Learning And Assessment

You’ll get to experience a range of teaching approaches on this course, and we’ll work to help you develop the study and learning strategies that best support you as you acquire and develop your psychology knowledge, language and academic skills. Each module you study will have a practical focus, and timetabled sessions will allocate time to tuition, group work and assignment/IT workshops. Each week, we offer 20 hours of tuition, including workshops or seminars, plus an hour’s academic tutorial to support you with assignments. Our teaching approach places emphasis on facilitation, whereby your tutor will guide and support you as you complete a variety of tasks.

In tutorial sessions, we’ll also give you detailed and constructive feedback on your progress, and help you find your own strategies for successfully completing the course. In addition, you’ll have access to our Virtual Learning Environment – a website with a wide range of additional learning materials, interactive content and support resources.

Our assessments are formative and summative. Formative assessment involves one-to-one discussions about your work, presentations and some group work, and while it doesn’t contribute directly to your marks for each module or overall qualification, it’s designed to guide and support you towards successful learning outcomes. Summative assessments are written assignments including reports, portfolios and case studies, plus presentations and in-class assessments, for which you’ll accumulate marks towards your final qualification.
