About this course

Entry requirements(typical offer) You should have an honours degree (or equivalent), or professional qualifications in a textiles, clothing, materials, technology, physical science or engineering related subject.

Your application will also be considered if you have alternative equivalent qualifications with extensive relevant work experience.

If you have not studied your previous qualifications in English a TOEFL score of at least 575 (written)/230 (computer-based) or an academic IELTS score of at least 6.5 will be required.

Students on the MSc International Textile Business and Innovation programme come to Bolton from all over the world. Special features

  • Postgraduate studies are supported by the University through a training programme, which includes topics such as writing for publication, presentation skills and stress management.
  • The town of Bolton has a long history of excellence and innovation in textiles; so too does the University. Teaching staff are drawn from industry and academia, with specialist knowledge across all areas of textile engineering.
  • The course makes extensive use of the Innovation Factory on campus, which contains a full range of industry standard equipment for the manufacture and evaluation of textile products.

The technological and commercial knowledge and skills of our graduates are highly valued by textile companies. Recent graduates have gone into merchandising, production management, new product development and quality assurance. Recent graduates have gone onto work for industry leaders including DuPont, Airbags International, Levi’s and Milliken.

On successful completion of the MSc programme many graduates choose to continue their studies by registering for a PhD.

Professional recognition

MSc Textile Engineering (the former name for this course) is recognised by the Textile Institute as fulfilling the academic requirements for applicants to the Associateship of the Textile Institute (ATI).

We are seeking to extend this recognition to MSc International Textile Business and Innovation as soon as possible.
