Course programme

About the course

The course is taught through lectures, practical laboratory sessions and tutorials. You will find the practical sessions invaluable in consolidating your learning.

Assessment is through a combination of exams and coursework. Each module on the course may have a slightly different approach depending on the expected learning outcomes; for example, some modules may use coursework only as a means of assessment where others may use a mix of coursework and exams.

Teaching staff are all very experienced professionals who have developed the technical content to such an extent that it can be delivered through lectures and practical sessions that best suit your requirements.

The modular nature of this course allows you to progress from a general introduction in the first year through to increasing specialisation in the final year.

The course is primarily available by full-time study. However, you may choose to study on a part-time basis which will give you the option to pick modules as and when they are running to suit your time constraints. Please contact the School of Games Computing and Creative Technologies if you wish to discuss the part-time study option.

What you will learn

Core studies in IT communications will give you an understanding of the technologies in growth areas such as wireless networking, mobile communications and voice/data integration. Elements of internet usage, technologies and application development are included in many of the modules across all levels of the course.

You will develop in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the design, implementation, administration and management of networked computer systems and network infrastructures. Some of the practice-based education you receive will be in Cisco accredited laboratory facilities and the course materials will give you a broad understanding of a wide range of computer networks.

Our practical approach ensures you will graduate with sound, hands-on experience of leading edge technologies and products.
