MSc Internet Computing

Mode: full-time

The rapid growth of the Internet and its associated applications (notably the World Wide Web) has created a market for suitably qualified Internet computing professionals. This innovative programme provides an industrially and commercially relevant knowledge that will allow you to design and develop effective Internet applications, with a particular emphasis on the development of interactive websites. It provides a unique opportunity for the future. Graduates from this MSc programme gain exemption from British Computer Society professional examinations (Professional Graduate Diploma and PGD Project).

How it operates: This full-time programme is one year in duration and comprises two semesters of six taught modules followed by a substantial individual dissertation project in the summer.

Programme Structure

The summer is dedicated to an individual dissertation project, which allows students to specialise in a selected area of interest relating to the programme of study. Projects often include systems development, web design/implementation, multimedia systems, application of new technology, or e-business studies. You will work closely with a project supervisor (a member of academic staff with expertise in the subject relating to your project). In addition to the practical work you will also write a substantial dissertation. Students often select projects in areas related to their future employment goals.

What people do after graduation: Recent graduates have been successful in finding excellent employment opportunities both in the UK and abroad. Some are applying their knowledge to management of e-commerce initiatives or development of Internet strategies. Others use their new technical and application development skills directly in roles such as Analyst, Programmer, Web Designer, Mobile Application Developer, Database Administrator or Network/Security Manager.

The postgraduate programme in Internet Computing offered at the University of Hull’s Scarborough Campus aim to give students a balance between technology and creativity in an inspirational natural setting.
