What will I learn?

The key theoretical principles associated with the safe insertion of a peripheral vascular access device (a cannula), including:

  • Accountability;
  • Site selection;
  • Cannula gauge selection;
  • Complications of insertion;
  • Equipment requirements.
  • In addition, you will learn how to perform the procedure of inserting a peripheral vascular access device and have the opportunity to practice this skill under supervision, using a manikin.
