Course Description
The course involves a variety of learning techniques. You will learn to understand the distinctiveness of the counselling approach as compared with other approaches to helping. Areas covered will include tutor input, group discussion, role playexercises and self-evaluation. Consideration will be given to the skills of listening, non-verbal communication, helpful responding and to issues such as confidentiality and referral.

Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs Grade D, incl. English. (Maths D for some courses). Or Pass in Level 1 Vocational Qual., Merit for BTECs, plus Key Skills Level 1 Comm. (App. of Number for some courses) or equivalent. Diplomas require Functional Skills in ICT, Maths and English.

• Gain skills in active listening and appropriate responding
• Understanding themselves and others better with regard to helping relationships
• Understanding and knowing their own limitations
• Gaining awareness of potential referral resources
• Understanding implications for further training
