This course is produced by City and Guilds of London and authorised by Autodesk, the producers of AutoCAD. The scheme is regularly updated to keep pace with revisions to the software. Your studies will involve acquiring an understanding of 3D visualisation and the ability to describe/use all the drawing commands, producing drawings for a wide range of uses and editing existing drawings.

About this course

It is assumed that candidates will be familiar with elementary drawing terms and conventions as well as very simple geometrical constructions. Basic concepts of co-ordinate geometry will also be helpful.

This course is produced by City and Guilds of London and authorised by Autodesk, the producers of AutoCAD. The scheme is regularly updated to keep pace with revisions to the software.

Your studies will involve acquiring an understanding of 3D visualisation and the ability to describe/use all the drawing commands, producing drawings for a wide range of uses and editing existing drawings.

Course Structure
The course is delivered over 34 weeks, one evening a week (to be arranged), from 6.30pm â€" 8.30pm in the Viking Building.

Structured lessons from your tutor will cover topics such as:
  • Defining equipment required for a system
  • Initialising the system hardware and software
  • Acquiring the ability to describe and use all the drawing commands
  • Producing drawings for a wide range of uses
  • Editing existing drawings
  • Gaining experience in the use of blocks
  • Acquiring and understanding of custom libraries
  • Acquiring and understanding of 3D visualisation


Qualification Aims
Successful completion of this course can lead on to other AutoCAD schemes in the 4350 series, 3D design, customisation and Auto Lisp.

Assessments/Examinations
One multiple question paper 1 hour
Two practical assessments 5½ hours
