Course review:

A fantastic ten week course! This course is exactly what you are looking for, should you want to learn the basics of Egyptian history, without leaving the comfort of your own home. Join my friendly, in depth classes to be e-mailed the weekly curriculum, and weekly assignments (which you can do at your own leisure). I will mark assignments each week and send them back the following week, with advice, comments and a mark where necessary. I will set coursework to be completed by the end of the ten week period. This, I will check once at around the five week mark, and will give you helpful critique. My e-mail is always open to my students to use for questions, no matter how trivial you think they may be. Upon satisfactory* completion of the course, I will award a certificate of completion.**
I take up to twenty students for each ten week period and do not take on any more so I can give my full attention. The ten week sessions run successively and when one ends, another begins, so please do book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Once you have successfully completed this course, you may be interested in one of my other more involved courses. This course is for beginners, for those who have no prior knowledge of Ancient Egypt, or those who want a refresher course. Other courses, are topic specific, or delve deeper in to the whole of Egyptian history. If you enjoyed a certain module, you will most likely find a detailed course linked to it. For example, I had many e-mails from students asking me if I would begin an Egyptian language course, which I have now done; a beginner, intermediate and advanced course.

Course content:
Week one- An introduction to the course- this will include receiving the course handbook and assignment titles for those who are aiming for certificate of completion.
An introduction to Egyptian History Part I- The Predynastic to The Middle Kingdom

Week Two- An introduction to Egyptian History Part 2- The New Kingdom to The Ptolemaic Period.

Week Three- Gods, goddesses and myths from Ancient Egypt

Week Four- Daily life in Ancient Egypt

Week Five- Basic Hieroglyphics- The sacred writing of the Egyptians

Around week five I require a copy of drafted coursework or evidence of research to be handed in, something for me to observe and give feedback on. This is for your benefit; I will chase you once for this, after that, if you have not given me your work I will not see the piece until it is in final form in week nine.

Week Six- Pharaohs and their Queens

Week Seven- Famous explorers and archaeologists- digging in the golden sands

Week Eight- Recent and current excavation in Egypt
Preference form
This week you will be asked to “elect” a personalised module based upon your own interests for week nine. This will mean you e-mailing me your preference form, sent to you in week eight.

Week Nine- ELECTIVE MODULE
The Amarna Period
Beyond the grave- An insight in to bioarchaeology
War and Warfare in ancient Egypt
Tombs and Temples
Town and Village Architecture
Childhood in Ancient Egypt
Feast or famine- Diet in Ancient Egypt
Tutankhamun
Egyptomania- Western reaction to Ancient Egypt in the 1900’s
Museum Studies and Egyptian Collections

This is the week when coursework should be handed in, any handed in later than week ten will not be marked as I move on to my next course swiftly after, and any delay (without great reason) will cause others to miss out on my undivided attention.

Week Ten- Mummies and mortuary culture

*Satisfactory is grade C, which I will always push my students to achieve. I mark once before completion, before sending them back to you to finalise with constructive remarks.
**Please be aware this is a certificate of completion and although can be used to show further education institutes or employers of your attendance, it is not accredited and does not count as a qualification. These courses are simply intended to broaden your knowledge.
