Introduction to Brickwork

Overview
The course is designed for those wishing to gain an understanding of basic tasks and theories within the Brickwork. Sessions will familiarise you on using the correct tools for each job, spreading mortar and laying bricks, setting out a brick model and building the model to the correct standards. This is a practical course, which will give an understanding of basic bricklaying skills, including: Half brick walling, Different types of bonds, Pointing and jointing techniques, Mortar mixing, Handling and storing materials.

Entry Requirements
No specific qualifications, previous learning or experience is required. However, basic literacy and numeracy skills are an added advantage. In addition candidates should have the ability to read write, organise and interpret written tasks in English. There will be an induction programme so the candidate fully understands the requirements of the qualification[s], their responsibilities as a candidate, and the responsibilities of the centre. This information will be recorded on a learning contract.

Course Duration
The evening course runs on Tuesday. Teaching sessions start at 18.00 and end at 20.30 for 8 weeks. Start date is 01 March 2016 and the end date is 03 May 2016.

Course Assessment
There is no formal examination; but tutors will continually assess your development needs throughout the short course.

Progression
Potential progression to level 1 and level 2 Brickwork programmes.

Course Fees
£250.00. This includes basic materials. Candidates must bring with them steel toe capped boots.
