Introduction to Complementary Therapies

This session is for individuals working with drug and alcohol users who are interested in how holistic therapies might be used with this client group. The course will consider how various complementary therapies understand problematic substance use and how this differs from a traditional Western approach. There will be demonstrations of certain approaches.

The objectives are for participants to:

  • Consider the pros and cons of Complementary therapies in drug treatment, including effectiveness
  • Understand some of the theory of complementary therapy
  • Experience practical demonstrations of a range of therapies
  • Consider how these therapies might be used with their own clients.
