Introduction to Counselling (PSY0019)
The course is a basic introduction to Counselling. It covers aspects of counselling and identifies some areas where counselling and support are required. Some skills are identified and discussed although more empasis is placed on providing learners with a broad overview.

10 weeks (2 hours per week and tutorial time)
Is this course for me?
There are no entry requirements. The course is suitable for anyone who is interested in counselling. An informal chat with the tutor prior to the course is welcomed.
How will I study?
The course is very much based on participation and discussion; you will explore new ideas and approaches to counselling.
How will my progress be measured?
The Open College Network certificate is achieved upon the sucessful completion of one written assignment and a number of group activities undertaken in the classroom, for which support and guidance will be given.
Progression
There are a number of options for learners wishing to progress. The College runs the NCFELevel 2 & 3 Counselling Skills & Theory and the Foundation Degree in Counselling. Entry for both of these is dependant upon learners working in a Counselling situation, either in a paid or voluntary role.
