About this course
No previous training is required, although you may be required to attend a 3 hour taster session, which are regularly set up prior to these Introductory courses to ascertain suitability. We recommend that students are over 18 years old.

Information about the courseThis short course will allow students to develop introductory counselling skills which can be used in everyday life, as well as to a gain a feel of what counselling is about and what counselling practitioner training involves.
This is a stand-alone qualification for those who wish to test their suitability for a more in-depth training course.
The employment national training organisation (EMPNTO) formally supports this qualification.

Course contentThe qualification contains the following units:
1. Use basic counselling skills within personal limits.
2. Establish a helping interaction.
3. Use empathy to understand difference.
4. Focus on others concerns.
5. Use basic counselling skills with self-awareness.
6. Use basic counselling skills.
7. Use study skills to enhance learning.
AdditionalityAll learners at West Herts College take part in an initial assessment in order for us to help them succeed on their chosen course.
Please bring a notepad and pen with you.
You will need to bring your Student ID card, Learning Agreement and invoice.
When will I receive my results?
Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.
AssessmentWeekly journal, tutor observation, peer feedback and self review paper (for external assessment).
ProgressionSuccessful students may progress onto the CSK-L2 , Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills. Your course tutor will offer advice and guidance during the course.
