Course Summary:
The qualification you will be working towards is the EAL Introduction to Engineering. You will gain an initial understanding of engineering principles which will enable your progression to a Level 2 programme and above. This course is designed for school leavers who will develop practical skills.
You will also develop your skills in maths and English, which will support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.
Entry requirements
Offers of a place on the course are dependent on qualifications and practical aptitude following a successful interview and initial assessment. Parents, guardians or carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment.

Course programme

Course Content: The course is primarily practical and focuses on the development of foundation knowledge skills. A high proportion of the programme will be spent developing maths and English skills to enable learning. Units consist of: Introduction to Working in Engineering Health and Safety Communications Working Effectively Mechanical Manufacture such as Milling and Turning Hand Fitting Fabrication and Welding How will I be assessed? Internal and external assessments will take place. In addition, a portfolio of evidence is collected to demonstrate your competence and knowledge. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You need overalls and boots for workshop activity. Learners may be expected to purchase Academy uniforms (supplied internally). What can I do after this course? You can progress to the NVQ Level 2 in your chosen discipline, an intermediate apprenticeship, the Performing Engineering Operations programme at Level 2 or other appropriate educational courses dependent on the entry criteria.
