Course programme
This one year study programme aims to introduce learners to a diverse and exciting range of disciplines within the creative media sector. The course is designed to cover a range of practical and theoretical skills in film making to prepare learners for progression to further study and ultimately a career within the creative media industries. You also will improve your English and maths skills and will learn how to plan, implement and evaluate your project work based on industry style briefs.
The course will provide the opportunity to experience a broad range of practical production briefs including film making, online media content and advertising production, along with more developmental research based study. A mixture of formal teaching, group work, supported independent study, written work and practical work is used in the delivery of the course. Some of your coursework will be submitted online via the virtual learning environment.
How will I learn?
You will use a wide range of equipment including professional standard cameras, tripods and lighting packs. Our Creative Media facilities include Mac suites running Adobe Creative Suite with Premiere and After Effects, PC suites and production areas. The Colchester Campus includes a well equipped television studio with green-screen facility. You will also learn how to film out on location safely.
Along with the media classes, you will study English and maths which will make you more employable and improve the quality of your media work. GCSE resit classes and Functional Skills sessions may be part of your timetable depending on your own specific needs. You will also attend group tutorials and 1-1 tutorials to support your study as well as enrichment activities such as watching films, meeting guest lecturers from the industry and making visits to film and television studios.

Entry Requirements
Normally 4 GCSEs (grades A*-E) including English and maths, or satisfactory results in a relevant Level 1 qualification, and an interview.

Successful students are eligible to apply to the main Film and Television Production study programme.
