Level 1 is ideal if you're just starting out in hair and beauty and want an understanding of the industry - enough to succeed in a job in the area or to move on to further study.
You will be enrolled on a Study Programme which will include mandatory attendance on your vocational course and English and Maths if required following assessment, as well as engagement in work experience and enterprise activities throughout the duration of the course.

The Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector qualifications can open doors to a wide variety of roles, including:
Salon Assistant;
Salon Receptionist.
You'll require GCSE English and Maths at Grades 3-1 (D-G) and two further GCSEs at Grade 2 (F).
You'll need good school references for attendance and punctuality and will have a positive interview with course staff before enrolment. You'll also have assessments to determine your English and Maths skill levels.

Course programme
You will study a variety of units relating to beauty therapy treatments and these may include:
- An introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector;
- Presenting a professional image in a salon;
- Create an image using colour in the hair and beauty sector;
- Skin care;
- Hand care;
- Basic Manicure treatment;
- Basic Pedicure treatment;
- Basic make-up application;
- Themed face painting;
- Basic Nail art application;
- Following health and safety;
- Salon reception duties;
- Working with others in the hair and beauty sector.
Assessment is continuous throughout the academic year and you'll complete treatments on peers and clients alike. After each assessment you will be given feedback from your tutor to give you the knowledge required to make any improvements ready for summative assessments. When you are ready for final assessment you will be assessed in a practical environment as you complete the practical treatments on salon clients.
All 13 units require you to complete a written assignment. You will be given the detailed information required to support you with research and fact finding in preparation for each assignment.
All assignments will have their own individual deadline date for submission. This will then be marked and you will received feedback on your submission within 14 days of the hand-in date.
