About this course
There are no formal entry requirements; you do not need to have any prior knowledge or experience of film editing, although as the course is mostly computer-based, basic IT skills will be advantageous.

Course Overview
This is a 12 week course aimed at beginners who wish to develop practical skills in video-making either for pleasure, for the web, or for presentations at work or for business.
Course Structure
Using the art of cinema as our inspiration, students will be shown:
- how to develop a visual language
- how to film and edit
-
how to introduce special effects such as green screen
Editing will be done on industry'standard software and students will need some basic IT skills.
Topics covered include:
- Video technology
- The grammar of the shot
- Creating a narrative
- Introduction to non-linear editing
- Special effects (blue/green screen)
- Adding music, sound and text
Qualification Aims
There are no formal qualifications for this course. Students who complete the course will be awarded a College Certificate of Achievement, and the skills you develop may count towards enabling you to study Media at Levels 2 or 3.
Students who successfully complete this course can progress onto the Introduction to Animation Course (A2100) which starts on 4th January 2010.
Assessments/Examinations
There is no formal assessment or examination, but feedback will be given based on the final short video assembled during the course.
Cost / Equipment
Course cost:£265 (no concessions)
You will need to bring a memory stick or removable USB storage media of at least 1GB.
All camera and editing equipment is supplied for class activities. Learners wishing to film on their own time will have to use their own equipment that must be compatible with College hardware.
