What will I learn?

To get on in the music industry, you need a lot of skills. This course will get you started. You will learn:
DJ Skills:
- The basics of how to DJ.
Studio Skills:
- What a studio is and how it works, including some music making software.
Event Project:
- How to set up an event.

You will also learn other basic skills that you need to be a sound engineer, like communication, finances and IT.

What will it be like?

You will study in recording studios, computer suites and classrooms, using the latest equipment. Check out the rest of the website to see!

The IMT is part practical and part theory. Your tutors will observe your practical skills, such as DJing, and mark your written projects.

How long does it take?

The course is 15 weeks long. You will have about 13 hours a week of taught sessions. On top of this, you will need to complete some coursework, to deadlines, in your own time. This is a vital skill for sound engineers.

Do I qualify?

Apart from an interest in the subject, you will need a willingness to learn, basic problem solving skills and the ability to work in groups.

How much is it?

The course is free for 16 to 18 year olds. Means tested funding is available for adults on low incomes or benefits, and can be based on previous qualifications – this will be dealt with on a day to day basis.

What can I do afterwards?

The IMT is a Level 1 course, which is like a GCSE. It gives you access to the BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts (Music), a year long GCSE level course.
