Qualities, value and styles of leadership: Examining what skills and qualities are required for effective leadership. A self assessment exercise helps participants to identify their own natural leadership style. Following on from this is an examination of a range of styles and their application suitability in a variety of situations. These exercises begin to highlight what a leader actually does and the skills needed.
Communicating Objectives: How to ensure clarity, gain commitment and keep informed of progress.
Tools for building productive teams: Examination of what makes a good team and looking at how a group develops into a team. An opportunity to look at how to lead the team effectively at each stage of its development.
Decision making and problem solving: New leaders often find themselves having to problem solve and this module looks at a six stage model for effectively making, evaluating and implementing decisions.
Skills set for leadership: Delegation, managing time and stress, dealing with poor performance and strategic planning are all skills required by leaders. This section of the course will examine each of these areas and highlight some tools and techniques for becoming affective in each of them.
