INTRODUCTORY DIPLOMA IN ART AND DESIGN
Course Content
The Introductory Diploma offers both two and three
dimensional subjects, these include the core study of general drawing
(visual studies), research skills and art history. Other areas of study
are painting, printmaking, textiles and fashion, graphic design,
photography, computer aided design, ceramics, sculpture and 3 dimensional
design. A wide range of specialists teach these subjects in well-equipped
studios. After Easter, you have the chance to work in Fine Art,
Textiles/Fashion, 3D and Graphics, by working on a project . This forms a
major part of the course and marks are awarded at the end of the course.
It
is expected that all students will enter for the qualification.
Method
of Assessment
The course is continuously assessed by both practical
and written assignments. There will be no final examination.
Key
Skills
All students will participate in timetabled sessions
designed to enhance skills in Communication and Application of Number.
Students will receive separate certificates on successful completion of
the programme.
Other Studies (enhancement)
Students may also
choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a
previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment
opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built
into the programme.
Other Activities
Students may be required
to participate in a work experience programme as an integral part of the
course, where this is appropriate.
Progression
This course is
a recognised route into a First Diploma in Art and Design or other Level 2
course.
Fees
Tuition and registration fees are free for
students aged 16-18 as at 31 August 2009 for the course period. Students
aged 19+ as at 31 August 2009 will be required to pay the fees below. You
are required to pay a tuition fee for each year of study. All fees are due
at the time of your enrolment. Costs may vary for international students,
please ask for details.
Equipment Charge
Students will be
required to purchase essential equipment and materials directly from an
approved college supplier. Order forms will be provided during the
enrolment period and the approximate cost is £60. Students may also need
to purchase additional materials depending on their area of interest eg
photo paper, fabric etc.
Consumable Items
Students will be
required to purchase general stationery items in addition to general art
consumables.
