About this course
* Minimum of second-class honours degree from a UK university.
* An overseas qualification of an equivalent standard after a course of study extending over at least three years in a university (or an educational institution of university rank).
* A professional or other qualification approved by the College.
* For those with a first degree in an unrelated subject or for non-standard applicants, our Graduate Certificate in Islamic Studies can be used as a conversion course.

It gives you the opportunity to learn about current discourses and gain a unique expertise. It draws on interdisciplinary research offered by relevant cognate disciplines (particularly Islamic studies, international relations, sociology, anthropology, race and ethnicity, gender studies and history).

Birkbeck is located in the heart of Bloomsbury, within easy reach of the major libraries and facilities of the University of London, including the School of Oriental and African Studies Library and the British Library.
Islamic Studies also benefits from a number of partnership arrangements with institutions of theological and philosophical study within the University of London and with colleges specialising in the study of Islam, such as the Muslim College. Close links also exist with the British Museum, giving unprecedented access to collections of material and artefacts from the world's ancient and modern religious cultures.
