ISO/IEC 20000:2005 was published on 16 December 2005, when BS15000 was withdrawn.

Alison Holt of Synergy International Limited of New Zealand, who chaired the Ballot Resolution meeting said:

Jenny Dugmore, chair of BSI's committee that produced BS 15000, Project Editor for ISO/IEC 20000 drafting and chair of the ISO Working Group that will develop ISO/IEC 20000 in the future said:

I also look forward to working with the other national standards bodies on developing ISO/IEC 20000 in the future. During the drafting of ISO/IEC 20000 some small changes were made to the wording and structure to align Parts 1 and 2 more closely.'

The standard has been published in two parts as as ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 and ISO/IEC 20000-2:2005.
